FAQ

Who designed your site?
My talented sister, Robin Helman, who has worked all over the place -from Andy Warhol’s Factory to Martha Stewart. Visit her site to see what she is up to.
How do you decide what to write about?
Usually I just write about what I’m doing on a day to day basis. What I’m cooking, what shows I’m seeing, what shops I’ve visited. But I’m always open to suggestions, so if there’s something you’d like me to cover, just drop me an email
I have a question, can I write to you?
If it’s a question about a specific post, then just comment. That way I can answer you, and at the same time other people can benefit. If it’s a general question about Rome, then do go through my past entries, as well the lists of restaurants and hotels I’ve put up. If the question is about planning your trip, I can help you work out an itinerary. See my “tours and talk” page to find out more.

I really like your photographs, can I use them without asking your permission?
No, you can't. I don't like putting those ugly water marks on my pretty pictures, even though I know that would discourage people from using them. If you really do want to use one of my photos, just drop me a line and ask. As long as you give me credit and it's something that I'm interested in too, then I'm happy to share.
Do you know any great villas to rent in Italy?
Yes, see my post on my favorite villlas
Do you review restaurants?
I don’t do traditional reviews on my blog. (See my work on Food and Wine for that). Instead I usually just write about places I’ve been to and liked.
I’m coming to Rome, can you recommend some restaurants?
With pleasure! Just have a look at my list. I'm also finishing up a Food App for Rome. So stay tuned.
And what about hotels? Again, the list. Soon to be replaced by my App.
Why aren’t your recipes nicely formatted like Sassy Radish and 101 Cookbooks?
Oh, I wish they were. And maybe some day they will be. But for now, I’m just writing them up as I would in an email to a friend (you!). They are pretty reliable, but I love to get feedback.
Why are your lists of favorite places and archives of recipes sort of, well, not so organized?
Some day, some day. I’m working on it. I'm working on a food app for Rome, so that should help.
Where are you from? How’d you end up in Rome?
See my about page, and - even better - buy my book Restoring a Home in Italy!
I’m coming to Rome and would like to book a private culinary tour with you, do you do that sort of thing?
Yes, I do! Just send me an email, describing what you have in mind, and I can give you some ideas and an estimate. I work with a lot of chefs and restaurant owners. This means be in for some serious ‘research.’ (Yes, I meant eating and drinking)
Can you recommend some cooking classes in Italy?
Yes, I can, here.

Do you own your own publishing company?
Why, yes I do. My sister and I founded One Book Press, where we put together gorgeous, image-driven books. Visit our web site, and read more about it here
