Food Lover’s Tour with Elizabeth Minchilli
On this tour I will lead you on an intensive, food-packed exploration of Rome’s most loved food traditions. While eating and drinking the entire way, of course.
We begin at 9:30, when we meet for a cappuccino and cornetti, and start our conversation about food in Rome. I’ll give you a brief run down on the city’s culinary history and what sets it apart from other Italian regions. You will learn about specific Roman dishes, ingredients and festivals, as well as what defines Roman cooking and what you should look for, and enjoy, while you’re here.
We will continue our journey, making stops in Rome’s ancient Ghetto and the Campo de’ Fiori Market, eating, drinking, buying and learning. Stops include outdoor markets, bakeries, cheese shops, kitchenware supply stores and more.
One of the most important parts of the day is lunch. We will stop for lunch at a simple, homey, trattoria where we will enjoy portions of genuine, delicious Roman specialties. And no day is complete without a stop for a gelato.

Do you have something specific in mind you’d like to explore (and by explore of course I mean eat and drink)? Maybe an intensive day of pizza? Or gelato may be your thing? I’m happy to take you on a custom made tour where we can focus on anything you’d like. I often take chefs and restaurant owners around, to do menu research or just expand their repertoire.

Are you coming to Rome or Florence for a week or more and don’t know where to eat? Let me plan out your trip, from a purely edible point of view. Just tell me your rough sight seeing plans, and I’ll prepare a complete itinerary of meals, snacks, cocktails and more that will make sure you get the most out of every bite you put in your mouth. The itineraries I prepare will take into consideration your special requests, but are also full of great surprises. You won’t end up in the same touristy restaurants as everyone else, but instead go where the locals go. The week will include everything from a slice of pizza in the street to a high end dining experience.
